Upgrade deliberately
Before every core update, create a verified database and file backup, review the source and target versions, and confirm server requirements.
Safe upgrade process
- Enable maintenance mode when appropriate.
- Run health checks and resolve existing failures.
- Back up configuration, storage, uploads, themes, add-ons, signing keys, and the database.
- Upload the upgrade package that exactly matches the installed source version.
- Review the manifest and run the upgrade.
- Verify the backend version, public pages, checkout, licensing, email, cron jobs, and logs.
Non-destructive design
Normal upgrades preserve customer and business data. Upgrade packages can support resume and rollback behavior, but backups remain essential because hosting failures can occur outside the application.
