A backup is useful only when it can be restored
Protect all components required to reconstruct the business: database, uploaded media, configuration, environment secrets, themes, add-ons, license and signing material, and generated private storage.
Recommended plan
- Automate frequent database backups.
- Use incremental or versioned file backups for media.
- Store encrypted copies in a separate account or region.
- Define retention periods for daily, weekly, and monthly copies.
- Test restoration on an isolated staging host.
- Document DNS, SSL, payment, mail, storage, and webhook recovery steps.
Record recovery-time and recovery-point objectives so the backup schedule matches the amount of downtime and data loss the business can tolerate.
